Phases

'Restricted' keys have always been an excellent way to control key quantities & unauthorised duplication, yet sadly they have never provided a solution for lost & stolen keys and when that situation eventually confronts you, your investment in so-called 'key control' disintegrates into a security & financial liability. Rectifying the situation involves calling a locksmith to 'rekey' your locks and replace your keys - expensive, time consuming, and what happens if another key goes missing next week? You have to do it all again.

That was the past - welcome to the future of key control systems.

Matrix Key Systems have a unique 'phase' function which gives you the ability to delete lost & stolen keys from operation through automatic 'programmed rekeys'.
There’s absolutely no training or tools necessary; when a key goes missing, you simply issue your next programmed ‘phase’ of keys for that lock, or for that group of locks. By simply opening the lock(s) with the new phase of keys your locks will automatically detect the new keys, and instantly eliminate the previous ‘phase’ of keys from operation - job done, it really IS that simple.

The actual number of lost keys your system can handle depends mostly on your access rights structure. Unfortunately, to delve any deeper into the 'how & why' would require nothing less than a textbook, but we've cited a few examples below to give you an idea.

  • A 212-room hotel complex with 9 phases per room, that's nearly 1700 missing keys that can be handled instantly, cost-effectively and in-house! Plus they've got 5 phases for the maids' master-key.
  • A local council that can delete over 40 lost keys - 5 from each of their 8 departments plus 5 phases for the master-keys - massively increasing the integrity of their 'key control' system.
  • A holiday rental apartment with 15 phases, meaning that the owners now only call a locksmith once a year instead of every few weeks, and the $50 key deposit more than covers the costs.
  • A real estate company with 33 rental properties has 9 phases for each property plus 5 phases for the agents' master-key. Not only can they control key issues & quantities, but if a tenant doesn't return all their keys, or is being evicted, the agents can simply move that property onto its next phase - no locksmith - no sheriff - no drama.
  • A school with all 86 of their locks keyed alike, each key can access anywhere within the school. They have 12 phases but only a third of the keys have to be replaced with each new phase.
  • Worst-Case Scenario - Our system design team works with you to design the most functional and practical system for your organisation. Part of this job is to maximise the efficiency of your 'phases' - allowing as many phases as possible whilst requiring minimal keys to be replaced. But even our worst-case scenario still enables you to change all your locks by simply replacing all your keys, and with our minimum of 5 phases that's still 5-times better than our 'competitors'.

Whilst any further explanation of the technical side of phasing is beyond the scope here, the end-user / operational side of phasing couldn't be simpler; it can all be handled in-house with zero training.

Although enacting a new phase is not an entirely costless exercise (obviously some keys need to be replaced with each new phase) the cost is insignificant compared to resolving the problem with any other mechanical locking system.

Usually, we recommend ordering your first 2 phases of each key with the initial system. Phase-1 to be issued out to key-holders for use; Phase-2 to be kept in your safe for emergencies, like a stolen key on Friday afternoon (remember - the next programmed phase of key IS the 'tool' that changes your locks). When you start using a Phase-2 key we recommend you order that Phase-3 key, and so on.

Whatever your situation, Matrix Key Systems has the right answer - it's simple, it's instant, it's secure and it's by-far the most cost effective way to ensure the integrity of your investment in key control.

The easiest way to find out how your key system will work is this,

1. Register to receive our System Design Form
2. Enter all your doors (Lock / Cylinder types are not needed at this stage)
3. Enter all your keys
4. 'X' where each key is allowed to access
5. Email it to our system design team at design@matrixkeysystems.com.au
6. We'll get back to you within 24 hours.

Note – Enacting a new ‘phase’ has no effect on your access rights structure; each person’s new key will operate exactly the same locks as their previous key did.
