About Us
Matrix Key Systems was born with one goal in mind - to bridge the two worlds of mechanical and electronic locking systems.
The main difference between the two (besides price) was the process required to delete a lost or stolen key from operation, and that difference was huge! Mechanical was time-consuming, required trained labour, it was expensive, and offered no 'warranty' or 'insurance' against another stolen key next week. Electronic on the other hand, was quick, simple and cheap, and for many organisations this one advantage outweighed all the disadvantages of going electronic.
In the beginning we actually focused on combining a mechanical key with an electronic head, but we became faced with all the same issues that plague the electronic locking market today; like power failure, technology superseding, limited range of applications, costly initial set-up, specialised servicing & repairs etc. We quickly decided to can the electronic idea, and turn our focus to developing a 100% mechanical product that incorporated the 3 most important features,
- Delete missing keys - this was by far the biggest advantage electronic had over mechanical.
- Standard - it had to be compatible with existing locks and cylinders already in the marketplace.
- Bump-proof - lock-bumping is causing chaos in the Americas and has the same potential here.
A few years later… and the result is a remarkable product that not only addresses the original criteria, it also
- sells at the same price-point as traditional restricted keys and locks
- has 650% more coding capacity than traditional restricted keys and locks
As you can see from the table below, nothing even compares to a Matrix Key System |

* Almost any electronically controlled door will have a mechanical key override function incase of electronic or power failure. These cylinders are not 'restricted' as standard, so extra keys are readily available and cannot be controlled, nor are the cylinders usually bump-proof. The mechanical override cylinder bypasses all features and functions of the electronics; therefore any electronic 'access control' system is pointless without upgrading all the mechanical override cylinders to a restricted keying system, or even better, a 'bump-proof' restricted keying system.

These days Matrix Key Systems is fundamentally an administrative, final assembly and distribution operation for our keying systems. We outsource all our raw manufacturing and sub-assembly because there's no point re-inventing the wheel, plus it's more cost-effective & accountable. We continue to outsource our installation and service work for good reason - it allows us to control overheads and deliver better value to our clients. Each Matrix agent is remunerated for what they achieve, not just for simply turning up each day. By rewarding both aptitude & attitude equally it has encouraged the motivated and weeded out the lazy, with the end result being a true team. This has proven to be beneficial for everyone involved - us, them and you.
Our business structure allows Matrix Key Systems to focus entirely on looking after our clients and their key systems; from new system design, to an extra key, to software support; when you call Matrix you're in the right place and talking to the right people.
